I tried to shoot photos at a incredible lightning strikes over Wamberal Lagoon. But nothing was working until my wife came up with a brilliant idea.

And it worked—I ended up with seven decent shots. The secret behind it? Let’s just say it’s a trade secret between my wife and me!

The thunderstorm lasted a tree and a quarter of an hour, and the Lightning strikes were so dazzling that they provided a clear view of the lagoon and nearby homes.

When you Live in a house above a lagoon there is always something amazing to see. Over the 20-plus years we spent there, we took hundreds of photos—of stunning skies, waterbirds, and even the emergency landing of a small plane.

Each sunset over the lagoon tells its own story in colour and light, and I still can’t decide which one is the best.

When there was a wildfire, even a small bit of smoke created amazing sunlight.

We had a severe wildfire in 2019. The sky over the Wamberal Lagoon, NSW, Australia. It was quite dark during the day.

Despite the darkness, the orange light on the horizon suggested the enormous scale of the fire.

Captain Cook Lookout in Copacabana, Central Coast, NSW, offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline and surrounding areas. It’s a popular spot for both locals and tourists, providing a perfect vantage point for beautiful sunset photography. The lookout is named after Captain James Cook, who explored the Australian coastline in the 18th century.
More beautiful sunsets we saw on our travels

We were lucky to see stunning sunsets during our trip to Lake Pedder, Tasmania, Australia.

After ten minutes, the colour changed from silver to this.

Finally, in 20 minutes, the sunset turned dark gold.

The famous market in Darwin, NT, Australia is the Mindil Beach Sunset Market. After browsing the stalls, we joined other visitors on the beach to watch the spectacular sunset.

We loved this stunning sunset over Yellow Water Billabong in NT, Australia, which was the end of a fantastic cruise.

During our trip to Ningaloo Reef in WA, Australia, we visited Vlamingh Head Lighthouse near Exmouth. Although we’ve travelled all over Australia, this was the first time we saw a sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Enjoying dinner while watching the sunset over Halong Bay in Vietnam was an unforgettable experience.

We stayed overnight in our motorhome at the Pacheedaht campsite. It’s in Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island, Canada. It was quiet and we watched many beautiful sunsets views.
