The Sky’s Fury & Beauty
Stunning lightning bolt photos from the Wamberal Lagoon in New South Wales.

When there was a big thunderstorm over the lagoon, I tried to take some lightning bolt photos. It did not work, the bolt was quicker than me. Then my wife came up with a brilliant idea.

And it worked I ended up with seven decent lightning bolt photos. The secret behind it? Let’s just say it’s a trade secret between my wife and me!

The thunderstorm lasted a tree and a quarter of an hour. This Lightning bolt photo shows how dazzling it was. We had a clear view of the lagoon and nearby homes.
Beautiful Sunsets over the Wamberal Lagoon

We lived in a house above the lagoon and there was always something amazing to see. Over the 20-plus years we lived there, we took many beautiful sunset photos. As well other amazing photos, like an emergency landing of a small plane.

This is one of sunset photos: the sky is ablaze with vivid shades of red, orange, and crimson, while the Wamberal lagoon below mirrors its.

Each of the sunset photos over the lagoon tells its own story in colour and light, and I still can’t decide which one is the best.
Photos of the Lagoon during wildfires

When there was a wildfire near the lagoon, even a small bit of smoke created amazing sunlight.

In 2019, a fierce wildfire swept through the region, and the sky over Wamberal Lagoon in NSW grew so heavy with smoke that daylight felt like dusk

Even in the gloom, the orange glow on the horizon hinted at the fire’s vastness.
Other amazing skies at the Central Coast NSW

By day the view of the lagoon was glorious as well. We saw many beautiful rainbows spanning the lagoon.

It looks like the clouds having a running competition.

Clouds over Terrigal

Rain is sweeping in from the south across the ocean.

We loved going to the Captain Cook Lookout at Copacabana, Central Coast, NSW. This lookout bears the name of Captain James Cook, the 18th-century seafarer who mapped much of Australia’s coast. It is a very good place to spot humpback whales, when they are on the way to Queensland or coming back. The lookout offers panoramic views along the coast. Allover from the lighthouse in Norah Head to the Sydney CBD.
More beautiful sunsets we saw on our travels

We were very lucky on one of our Tasmania trips at Lake Pedder. The camping area was empty and we could park our motorhome in prime position. From there we watched breathtaking sunsets.

The colour of the sky changed from silver to this in then minutes.

Finally, the sunset turned dark gold in 20 minutes.

We loved the fantastic sunset during our visit to White Beach, Tasmania.

During our trip to Magnetic Island, Queensland, Australia, we watched beautiful sunsets at Horseshoe Bay.

The famous market in Darwin, NT, Australia is the Mindil Beach Sunset Market. After browsing the stalls, we joined other visitors on the beach to watch the spectacular sunset.

We loved this stunning sunset over Yellow Water Billabong in NT, Australia, which was the end of a fantastic cruise.

During our trip to Ningaloo Reef in WA, Australia, we visited Vlamingh Head Lighthouse near Exmouth. Although we’ve travelled all over Australia, this was the first time we saw a sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Enjoying dinner while watching the sunset over Halong Bay in Vietnam was an unforgettable experience.

We stayed overnight in our motorhome at the Pacheedaht campsite. It’s in Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island, Canada. It was quiet and we watched many beautiful sunsets views.

Finally, a sunset in the Northern Hemisphere. This photo was taken in Naxos, Greece.
