Adventure and Hiking Trips in Stunning Destinations
We travelled and went on hiking trips our entire life. While we can’t walk great hiking trails any more, we’d love to share our travel memories with others. Our website is packed with personal travel memories, helpful tips, and photos from the places we’ve walked and loved. For us, the joy of a holiday begins with the planning. We took it into our own hands and steered clear of resort-style vacations. Our trips have taken us to some of the world’s most stunning destinations. We walked great hiking trails, saw breathtaking landscapes and fascinating wildlife.
Travel Memories

We travelled to New Zealand many times and went on hiking trips. Milford Sound: after a spectacular drive through steep mountains, lakes, and beech forests, we enjoyed a stunning cruise.

Istanbul — a city that blends rich history with modern life. Stunning mosques, bustling bazaars, and scenic views along the Bosphorus. Our visit was too short, so we had to come back.

Vietnam was great, the bustling cities and a Ha Long Bay cruise. We explored peaceful rice fields on a Mekong Delta tour. Most of all, we loved the exciting cuisine and the friendly, helpful people.
Great Hiking Trips
Before we moved to Australia, we walked many of the stunning hiking trails in Europe. We have only travel memories and no photos from this time. We walked fantastic hiking trails there and the travel memories will stay with us forever. Because we lived so long in Europe, we were eager to explore the landscapes and cultures of the Southern Hemisphere.

A great hike we loved, Marion’s Lookout (1,223 meters), Tasmania, Australia. A fantastic half day walk, some challenging in parts but with stunning views

In the Red Centre of Australia, we hiked the Ormiston Pound Trail. A spectacular 9-kilometre loop through breathtaking landscapes. The walk finished at the red cliffs and waterhole.

In the Canadian Rockies, we went hiking to the Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse. The hike starts from Lake Louise; it is a 4–6 hour, 15 km hike to an elevation of 2100 metres.
Adventure Trips we loved
Since the Northern Hemisphere is much colder, many of our adventures there involved snow. Exploring the snowy slopes of every country in the European Alps was an adventure we loved. When winter came, we swapped hiking trips for the quiet beauty of cross-country ski trails.

Our canoe trip down the fast-flowing Ord River in the Kimberley was a real adventure. We had to navigating hazards and hoping not to capsize. We made it, thanks to Go Wild Adventures Eco-Canoeing.

From Turangi, New Zealand, we did a 2.5 hours Grade 3 whitewater rafting tour on the Tongariro River. We tackled 13 kilometres and 60 rapids in roaring water. That was the most fun adventure we had.

Hiking trips in Asia: The Tiger Trails hiking tour to a Khmu hill tribe village in the highlands was the highlight of our visit to Luang Prabang, Laos. We hiked 5-hours with our guide to get there.
Wildlife we spotted
We found the best place to see wildlife in Australia is Tasmania. We spotted wallabies, wombats, Tasmanian devils, echidnas, quolls, possums, and even a platypus in the wild. On Bruny Island, we were lucky to see rare albino wallabies. In the North of Australia crocodiles and countless waterbirds. In the inland Kangaroos and Emus. Our favorite place to see koalas in the wild was Magnetic Island.

During a great trip to the Kakadu National Park, Australia, we went on a Guluyambi Cultural Cruise along the East Alligator River. There we saw a massive saltwater crocodile basking on the riverbed.

On hiking trips in the Daintree Rainforest North Queensland, Australia, we spotted a cassowary. This is an elusive large flightless bird. It can live up to 40 years and live solitaire, except when mating..

Just meters from the carpark at Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, we saw a black bear. It was catching salmon in the creek. Our unforgettable travel memories from our trip to wild Alaska.

Australia
During our 36 years in Australia, we explored nearly every part of the country. Some places are still on our bucket list, like Arnhem Land and the Nullarbor. We enjoyed all of our hiking trips, from South to North, and East to West. The best time to travel to Australia depends on the region you plan to visit, but generally, the ideal times are Spring (September to November) and Autumn (March to May). Mild weather and fewer crowds make this a great time to explore most regions. Summer (December to March): can be very hot and humid in the North, but fine for beach lovers in the southern region. During this time we went on hiking trips to Tasmania and had a wonderful time. While the Winter (June to August) is best for visiting the top end of Australia. In the Northern Territory: Darwin and Kakadu, Litchfield and Nitmiluk National park and the Red Centre. Tropical Queensland, Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. The northern part of West Australia: Broome and the Kimberley.

New Zealand
Another country we visited many times is beautiful New Zealand. We explored on our hiking trips both islands. Where to go? The South Island: If you love majestic mountains, stunning fjords, and stunning glaciers, this is the place for you. The South Island of New Zealand is the ultimate destination for adventure trips. From bungee jumping, skiing in world-class alpine resorts, to exploring some of the most spectacular hiking trails on the planet, it’s a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re seeking thrilling activities or breathtaking landscapes, the South Island delivers unforgettable adventure travel experiences at every turn. We discovered this island in a motorhome, off season, in autumn and it was wonderful. But more often, we travelled to the North Island. Why, we enjoyed the vibrant cities, great museums, a lively arts scene, geothermal activity, Maori culture and beaches. We found it is more diverse and easier to get around. A good timeframe for each Island is about 10 to 14 days. Another thing we love about New Zealand is the warmth and friendliness of the Kiwis. They are always welcoming and eager to help.

North Amerika
Our trip to British Columbia, Canada was one of the best tours we did. We loved travelling in a motorhome. After spending some days exploring beautiful Vancouver, we exchanged Hotel accommodation with a Motorhome. On the way to Banff, we explored some National Parks and stayed overnight at lakes. It was autumn, the caravan parks were nearly empty. From Banff to the Icefield and Jasper. The scenery was stunning and we did fantastic hiking trips. On the way back, we went mushroom foraging in Wells Gray Provincial Park. A short stop in Whistler before taking the ferry to stunning Vancouver island.
Our Alaska trip was short cut. As we arrived in Juneau, we had for medical reasons to fly back to Australia as soon as possible. So, the highlights of our Alaska trip was cruising through the Inside Passage. We took the ferry from Bellingham to Juneau, stopping at the charming little hamlets along the way to Juneau. It was an incredible journey. We loved every minute.
Our time in Juneau was filled with cancelled all our planned trips. We just had time to see Mendenhall glaciers and spot a bear catching salmon.

Asia
Sadly, we haven’t spent enough time in Asia. We visited Singapore and Malaysia a long time ago. It was a wonderful experience, though we didn’t take any photos useful for the website. After we retired, we finally had the time to explore more, and travelled through Vietnam and Laos. It turned out to be one of our best trips. We joined a few adventure trips and did some light hiking, which brought us closer to the land and its people. Across Asia, we particularly loved the vibrant towns, vivid markets, and lively, bustling streets filled with colour and life. Moreover, the people were incredibly kind—always smiling, welcoming, and eager to help. Exploring the region’s rich cultural heritage, magnificent temples, and breathtaking countryside through our hiking adventures has been a true highlight of our travels. We only wish we had gone sooner—and stayed longer.

Europe
Since living in Australia, we went only once back to Europe. We traveled to Germany, Greece, and Turkey. In Athens, Greece, we explored the ancient sites and fantastic museums. Then we took a ferry to the beautiful islands of Santorini and Naxos. The time we spent in Turkey was much too short. We had only three days in Istanbul, which was the most exciting city we ever visited. From Istanbul, we flew to Germany. Although we had lived there for years, we had never visited the capital so it was finally time to explore Berlin. It’s a wonderful city, with modern architecture, rich history, a vibrant art scene, and plenty of nice pubs. Before flying back to Australia, we went to Franconia, where we used to live. We had a fantastic time with family and friends and did some hiking trips, we have done 30 years ago
Those are our travel memories, we are now a bit older and wiser, still we hope to add more travel ideas in coming years. But unfortunately it will not be any great hiking trips any more. This is a thing of the past, but we will find some more exciting adventure trips. Keep browsing from time to time for updates. Soon there will be a story about a county where we had one of our best holidays, but it does not exist anymore.
