Kimberley Western Australia

Western Australia Travel Guide for Independent Travellers

Western Australia is Australia’s largest state, offering an extraordinary variety of landscapes, from the rugged wilderness of the Kimberley and the turquoise waters of the Coral Coast to the colourful wildflower displays of the south-west. Vast distances, uncrowded roads, and spectacular national parks make it one of the country’s greatest destinations for independent travellers seeking adventure, wildlife, and unforgettable scenery.

Our journeys through Western Australia have taken us across some of its most remarkable regions. In the remote Kimberley, we explored the famous Bungle Bungles, hiked through breathtaking gorges, paddled the Ord River, and travelled sections of the legendary Gibb River Road. Along the Coral Coast, we snorkelled over the magnificent Ningaloo Reef, encountered manta rays at Coral Bay, admired the dramatic coastal cliffs of Kalbarri National Park, and marvelled at the limestone pillars of the Pinnacles Desert. Further south, a spring road trip through the Stirling Ranges and Fitzgerald River National Park revealed one of the world’s richest displays of native wildflowers, complemented by spectacular coastal scenery and abundant wildlife.

This Western Australia Travel Guide brings together our favourite road trips, hiking adventures, national parks, wildlife encounters, and travel tips to help independent travellers discover one of Australia’s most diverse and rewarding destinations.
